After spending parts of the last seven seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Lucas Sims is on the move.
The Reds announced that they traded Sims to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
Sims, 30, is in the final year of his contract and will become a free agent at the end of the season. In 35.1 innings for Cincinnati in 2024, the right-hander has posted a 3.57 ERA while picking up one save and 40 strikeouts. He has struggled with his control at times, issuing 20 walks.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that minor-league pitcher Ovis Portes is heading back to the Reds in the trade.
Portes, 19, is currently in single-A, and has struck out 25 and walked 15 hitters over 21.0 innings.
Boston has had the worst bullpen in baseball over the past month, with its relievers posting a 6.44 ERA since June 30.
