Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Raimel Tapia has been designated for assignment by the Boston Red Sox.
The 29-year-old, who slashed .264/.333/.368 with Boston this season in 39 starts, has played in all three outfield positions. He went 4-for-13 as a pinch-hitter.
The Domincan left-hander played last season with the Blue Jays, where he slashed .265/.292/.380 in 128 games.
The Red Sox made the move in order to make room for infielder Christian Arroyo, who was coming off the 10-day Injured List.
The club now has seven days to either trade Tapia or place him on irrevocable outright waivers, unless another team claims him first.
