Reliever Jay Jackson is on his way to Pittsburgh to join the Toronto Blue Jays after starting the year at triple-A Buffalo, Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson reports.
In and out of the major leagues since 2015, the 35-year-old right-hander was one of the final cuts at spring training this year.
Jackson is 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA, 15 strikeouts and two walks in 10.2 innings with Buffalo this year.
Blue Jays reliever Zach Pop exited Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox with right hamstring discomfort and could be headed to the IL.
The native of Brampton, Ont. appeared to suffer the injury during the bottom of the eighth inning and needed help to get off the field.
Pop pitched two-thirds of the eighth inning before exiting, giving up two hits and three earned runs.
Pop has had his struggles recently, registering a 6.59 ERA over 13.2 innings pitched for the Blue Jays this season.
The Blue Jays bullpen has hit a rut during the current five-game losing streak. The relievers also have had a heavy workload as all five Blue Jays starters couldn’t make it through six innings the last time through the rotation.
Watch the Blue Jays-Pirates game on Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT on Sportsnet ONE or SN NOW.
