The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly at the front of the line to acquire and reunite with Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez.
Z101 Digital's Hector Gomez reported Tuesday that the Blue Jays have emerged as the "front-runners" to trade for the former Toronto outfielder.
Hernandez was sent to Seattle in the off-season deal that brought reliever Erik Swanson and pitching prospect Adam Macko to the Blue Jays.
After spending parts of six seasons in Toronto, Hernandez has struggled with the Mariners, hitting just .238 while leading MLB in strikeouts. He has, however, hit left-handed pitching well, slashing .303/.323./.573 against southpaws. Hernandez has 16 total home runs on the season.
Before the Mariners-Blue Jays matchup earlier this month, Hernandez didn't rule out a return to Toronto, telling Blair & Barker "I'm not going to say no" to a potential reunion.
Hernandez ranks seventh on the Blue Jays' all-time leaderboard in slugging percentage (.503), 11th in home runs (129) and 13th in OPS (.823).
Other teams have been connected to Hernandez, with MLB Network's Jon Morosi reporting Monday that "at least half a dozen" teams are interested in the 30-year-old slugger.
