Veteran relief pitcher Joakim Soria is retiring after a 14-year career, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Soria finished the 2021 season with the Toronto Blue Jays and was an unrestricted free agent. The Blue Jays acquired him from the Arizona Diamondbacks and he made 10 appearances with Toronto but was limited by a finger injury, some personal family matters and some time on the COVID-19 injury list.
The 37-year-old retires after a career that included two all-star game selections and 3.11 ERA over 763 relief innings. He spent seven of his 14 seasons with the Royals over two stints and also pitched for Oakland, Texas, Detroit, Pittsburgh, the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.
