The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Miami Marlins infielder Jonathan Villar in exchange for a player to be named later, the team announced Monday.
MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported that outfielder Griffin Conine is going to the Marlins in return.
Villar has posted a .272/.328/.360 slash line (90 OPS+) in 29 games with Miami this season, while stealing an MLB-best nine bases. He has started at second base, shortstop and centre field.
The 29-year-old switch hitter has a career .734 OPS across eight MLB seasons and has recorded 136 doubles, 15 triples and 80 home runs. At the end of the season, Villar will become a free agent.
Conine, the son of former Marlin Jeff Conine, hit .283/.371/.576 with 22 home runs at low-A for the Blue Jays in 2019.
