Starting pitcher Chris Archer appears to be returning to Florida, signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal reports.
The deal is worth $6.5 million, according to ESPN‘s Jeff Passan.
Archer, 32, made his major league debut in Tampa Bay and spent seven seasons with the club before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates at the 2018 MLB deadline. The right-hander missed the entire 2020 season as he recovered from neck surgery.
In 2019, Archer went 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP, along with 143 strikeouts. The Raleigh, N.C., native was named an All-Star in 2015 and 2017.
