As the Chicago Cubs work through some early-season bullpen issues, they have turned to the trade market to try and find a solution.
According the ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Cubs have agreed to send infielder Jake Slaughter to the Seattle Mariners for right-handed reliever Tyson Miller.
Chicago has the 24th-ranked bullpen by ERA this season, and is looking to compete in the NL Central. It currently sits second in the division with a 24-18 record.
Miller had recently been designated for assignment by Seattle after pitching to a 3.09 ERA with 12 strikeouts and one walk in 11.2 innings. It had to clear a roster spot for starter Bryan Woo, who was reinstated from the injured list on Friday.
The Mariners signed Miller to a minor-league deal in the off-season. The 28-year-old has previously pitched for the Cubs, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets in the majors.
Miller was originally a fourth-round pick of the Cubs in the 2016 draft.
Slaughter is a 27-year-old third baseman, who has a .297/.392/.486 slash line in 32 triple-A games this season. He was picked by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2018 draft.
