The Los Angeles Dodgers and outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger reportedly agreed to a one-year contract worth $17 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Passan tweeted Thursday that the deal was long done and completed prior to the lockout to avoid arbitration. MLB’s collective bargaining agreement expired at the start of the month and teams removed all images and highlights of current players from their websites.
Bellinger, 26, had 10 home runs and 36 RBIs with a .165/.240/.302 slash line last season as he struggled with multiple injuries during his fourth year with the club.
He bounced back in the postseason driving in the go-ahead run during a 9-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants in Game 2 of the NLDS and hit the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth of Game 5 as the Dodgers held on to win 2-1 and clinch the series.
After a sparkling debut winning the 2017 NL Rookie of the Year award, Bellinger was named the NL MVP in 2019 and helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 2020.
