San Francisco Giants assistant coach Alyssa Nakken formally interviewed for the club's vacant managerial position this past week, per The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly.
She is believed to be the first woman to officially interview for an MLB manager's job, according to Baggarly.
Naken, 33, became the first woman to join an MLB coaching staff in 2020 when the Giants promoted her. She has been a part of the organization since 2014, when she served as an intern in the baseball operations department.
She was a three-time all-conference softball player at Sacramento State before joining the organization and had filled various front-office roles before her promotion in 2020.
In 2022, she became the first woman to coach on-field in an MLB game, after taking over the first base coaching duties when Antoan Richardson was ejected.
Baggarly reported that she is one of three internal coaches to interview to be the new manager in San Francisco, joining bench coach Kai Correa and third base coach Mark Hallberg.
Former manager Gabe Kapler was fired on Sept. 29 after guiding the Giants to a second straight season where they didn't make the playoffs.
San Francisco's president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi reportedly wants to have a manger in place by the first week of November.
