When Alex Cobb completes his rehab from off-season hip surgery, he will be suiting up for a new team.
The San Francisco Giants have traded Cobb to the Cleveland Guardians, the teams announced Tuesday.
Cobb is yet to pitch in the majors this season but has been making rehab starts over the past month and was expected to debut for the Giants this weekend.
The 36-year-old posted a 3.87 ERA over 151.1 innings in 2023 for San Francisco. Cobb has pitched in parts of 12 MLB seasons, spending time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Angels and Giants.
A one-time All-Star, Cobb is in the final season of a three-year, $28 million deal he signed with the Giants ahead of the 2022 campaign.
In his six rehab outings this year, Cobb has a 3.93 ERA, 24 strikeouts and seven walks through 18.1 innings.
Cleveland is sending pitching prospect Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later to San Francisco in the trade.
Bresnahan is a 19-year-old left-hander, who recently earned a promotion to single-A. After beginning the year in the complex league, he owns a 2.70 ERA and 66 strikeouts through 50.0 innings across both levels.
