It's been a busy day for Spencer Horwitz.
Hours after being dealt from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Cleveland Guardians as part of the Andrés Giménez deal, the Guardians send Horwitz to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right-handed starter Luis Ortiz and pitching prospects Josh Hartle and Michael Kennedy.
Horwitz broke out for the Blue Jays in 2024, posting a .265/.357/.433 slash line with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs in 97 games.
The 27-year-old was selected by the Blue Jays late in the 2019 draft and made his MLB debut in 2023, spending most of his time at first base in his two seasons with the Blue Jays.
Hartle, 21, was the 17th-ranked prospect in the Pirates pipeline and split the 2024 season between his college team, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Florida Complex League.
Ortiz, 25, made his MLB debut in 2022 for the Pirates and holds a 12-13 record. He posted career-best numbers in 2024, with a 3.32 ERA with 107 strikeouts and 42 walks in 135.2 innings.
