Report: Mariners in agreement with Jorge Polanco on one-year deal

Jorge Polanco is sticking around in Seattle.

The Mariners have agreed on a deal to bring back the infielder after trading for him last year, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Thursday.

According to Rosenthal, the deal is pending a physical and is worth $7.75 million. It also includes a $750,000 buyout on a vesting player/mutual option for 2026 based on plate appearances, Rosenthal added.

Polanco joined the Mariners last January in a trade from the Minnesota Twins. In his lone year in the Pacific Northwest, the 31-year-old batted .213 with 16 home runs and 45 RBIs over 118 games played.

Though he primarily suited up at second base last season, Rosenthal reported that the Mariners' plan is to play him at third.

The Dominican Republic native earned his first and only all-star selection in the 2019 season after batting .295 with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs while with the Twins.

With Polanco re-signing in Seattle, the Houston Astros will need to look elsewhere for infield help, as Rosenthal reported that the AL West rivals were interested in his services.
