A new outfielder is headed to the Big Apple.
The New York Mets have acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for reliever Eric Orze, the teams announced Tuesday.
Siri, 29, is best known for his glove and speed. His sprint speed and defensive outs above average were in the 99th percentile last season, but he does struggle with the bat.
The veteran outfielder hit 18 home runs this past season and 25 the year prior despite having a previous career high of four. However, in 2024 Siri batted .187 and had a .255 on-base percentage. Siri's career batting average is .210 and he is under team control through the 2027 season.
Orze made his major league debut last season for the Mets, appearing in two games. The 27-year-old right-handed reliever allowed three hits and four runs over 1.2 innings in his outings.
