The Baltimore Orioles continued their big trade deadline, reportedly acquiring Eloy Jimenez from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.
Jimenez, 27, has struggled to remain healthy throughout his career but came up as a top prospect in 2019 before winning a Silver Slugger award in 2020.
He has missed time in 2024 due to a hamstring injury suffered while running the bases.
This season, the six-foot-four designated hitter has a .642 OPS and five home runs in 65 games.
Jimenez is in the final year of a six-year, $43 million deal that he signed in 2019. The contract includes team options for 2025 and 2026, so Baltimore can bring him back if it desires.
He should slot into Baltimore's lineup against left-handed pitching. This season he has an OPS of .710 against southpaws and a .760 mark for his career.
Triple-A pitcher Trey Mcgough is the reported return for Jimenez, per USA Today's Bob Nightengale. The 26-year-old left-handed reliever has a 2.08 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 34.2 innings since being promoted from double-A.
