The San Diego Padres have agreed to a contract with starting pitcher Michael Wacha according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Wacha, 31, pitched for the Boston Red Sox in 2022, posting a 3.32 ERA in 127.1 innings of work while striking out 104.
The one-time all-star has spent parts of 10 major league seasons with the Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays.
With the Cardinals in 2013, Wacha was named the NLCS MVP after pitching 13.2 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He will join a rotation that already features Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove and Blake Snell, with what now appears to be a battle for the final rotation spot between Seth Lugo and Nick Martinez — who both pitched primarily in relief in 2022.
