The San Diego Padres are bringing back a mid-season addition from 2024.
Veteran catcher Elias Díaz signed a one-year, $3.5-million contract with the Padres on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
The 34-year-old slashed .265/.313/.382, hit six home runs, and drove in 39 over 96 games split between the Padres and the Colorado Rockies.
In 2023 Díaz was an MLB All-Star and had 14 home runs and 72 RBIs to go along with a .267/.316/.409 slash line.
The 10-year major league veteran signed a minor league contract with San Diego on Aug. 26, 2024 after being released by the Rockies earlier that month. Diaz will join Luis Campusano and Brett Sullivan at the catcher position on the Padres depth chart.
