It's Burger time in the Lone Star State.
The Texas Rangers have reportedly acquired corner infielder Jake Burger from the Miami Marlins in exchange for prospects Echedry Vargas, Max Acosta and Brayan Mendoza, according to multiple reports.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was first to report the agreement.
In Burger, Texas is getting a power bat with some positional versatility at corner infield, which may be useful given the injury concerns for 2023 All-Star third baseman Josh Jung after he played in just 46 games.
As a Marlin in 2024, Burger was responsible for most of the team's offensive production. The 28-year-old hit .250 with a team-high 29 home runs, 76 RBIs and 68 runs. He is one year away from arbitration and is under club control for another four seasons.
Miami gets a trio of young players in return. Acosta, a 22-year-old middle infielder, hit .288 in double-A last season and stole 26 bases. Vargas, 19, is the Rangers' 17th-ranked prospect according to MLB.com. The middle infielder spent last season at single-A, where he hit .276 with 14 home runs.
Mendoza, a 20-year-old lefty starter, hurled a 2.18 ERA over 90 innings in single-A last season.
