The Kansas City Royals have made another move to boost their bullpen as they battle for playoff positioning in the American League.

Kansas City has acquired hard-throwing reliever Lucas Erceg from the Oakland Athletics, the teams announced Tuesday.

Erceg, 29, has broken out in 2024 for Oakland. The right-hander has a 3.68 ERA over 36.2 innings this season and has stuck out 41 hitters. He has also done a solid job of limiting walks and home runs, making him an ideal late-game option for a contending team.

The two-year MLB veteran also comes with some serious heat, averaging 98.8 m.p.h. on his fastball.

The Royals had already made an addition to their bullpen, trading for Hunter Harvey ahead of the All-Star break and now will add Erceg into a mix that has struggled this season.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the Royals will send prospects Mason Barnett, Will Klein and Jared Dickey to Oakland in the trade.

Barnett (No. 11) and Klein (No. 14) were both ranked in Kansas City's top-30 prospect by Baseball America in a mid-season update.
