The New York Mets have reportedly hired Toronto native Elizabeth Benn as their new director of Major League operations, per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo.
Benn, who will become the highest-ranking female baseball operations employee in franchise history, was previously employed in the MLB front office as the senior coordinator of baseball operations.
Paving the way for other women in baseball, Benn became the first woman to play in the New York Metro Baseball league and has worked for the league office in many roles over the past five years, joining as an intern in 2017 before taking on coordinator roles in labour relations, diversity and inclusion, and baseball development until being promoted into her current position in 2020.
Joining a lot of new faces in the Mets organization, Benn is the newest addition to a franchise that has added Billy Eppler as general manager and Buck Showalter as manager.
