Former Blue Jays catcher Ernie Whitt will manage Team Canada for the fifth time at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, per MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Whitt will be the only manager to hold that title through all five of the tournaments.
The 70-year-old spent 15 years in the majors as a catcher, with 12 of those coming with the Blue Jays. He also spent time as a member of the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles.
In addition to managing Canada at all of the World Baseball Classics, Whitt managed the national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics and won two gold medals at the Pan Am Games in 2011 and 2015.
Canada has an all-time 3-8 record through the first four classics and went 0-3 in the most recent iteration.
The one-time all-star will lead the team in 2023 against a group that includes: the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Great Britain.
The tournament runs from March 8-21, 2023 in Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
