With D.J. LeMahieu hoping to stay in New York City, the New York Yankees and New York Mets are considered the frontrunners for the free-agent infielder, according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.
The most likely scenario at this point in time is that LeMahieu re-signs with the Yankees, per Davidoff, but the Mets remain secondary favourites due to the player’s desire to stay in New York.
The Toronto Blue Jays are also in the LeMahieu sweepstakes, per Davidoff, though they are at an obvious disadvantage geographically.
LeMahieu, 32, batted .364/.421/.590 with 10 home runs and 27 RBI in 50 games with the Yankees this past season. He set career highs in batting average and on-base percentage, albeit in a shortened campaign.
In 2019, LeMahieu slashed .327/.375/.518 in 145 games with New York.
