Former Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Paul DeJong has found himself a new home, signing a major-league deal with the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday, according to several reports.
The signing was first reported by USA Today's Bob Nightengale.
The Blue Jays designated DeJong for assignment on Saturday, just 18 days and 13 games after acquiring him from the St. Louis Cardinals for right-hander Matt Svanson.
The 30-year-old DeJong went 3-for-44 (.068) with zero extra-base hits in 13 games with Toronto, ostensibly as a reliable defensive fill-in for the then-injured Bo Bichette. The latter's return to the lineup, combined with DeJong's struggles at the plate, made him expendable.
