The Tampa Bay Rays are drawing interest from potential buyers in and out of Tampa, according to Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
Rosenthal and Rome reported that the local buyer is Dan Doyle Jr., of the Tampa-based DEX Imaging.
The Rays are also drawing interest from potential buyers looking to relocate the AL East franchise to a market suited for MLB expansion. Back in 2021, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that he would consider an expansion fee in the range of $2.2 billion.
Rosenthal and Rome further reported that current owner Stuart Sternberg is still set on building a new $1.2 billion stadium in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. The team's lease on Tropicana Field is set to expire in 2027.
