As the Minnesota Twins prepare to host the Toronto Blue Jays in this week's American League wild-card series, the status of a few of their players is up in the air.
Carlos Correa has been out for the past two weeks with a foot injury, but sounds like he'll be good to go for first pitch on Tuesday. The 29-year-old discussed his status with reporters at Monday's media day.
"I've been able to do pretty much everything. Ground balls, hit, some live at-bats, run, I've been doing everything. I feel good," he said, per MLB.com's Do-Hyoung Park.
After signing a six-year, $200-million contract with the Twins in the off-season, Correa disappointed in 2023, slashing .230/.312/.399.
2017 first-overall pick Royce Lewis has been out since Sept. 19, dealing with a hamstring injury.
The 24-year-old has been a major part of the Twins' offensive success this season, hitting .309/.372/.548 in 58 games. He also hit 15 home runs — four of which were grand slams.
He also spoke about his status for Tuesday, sounding less encouraged about his ability to play.
"I would love to do anything at this point. Just based on feel, I think [playing] DH would be great," he said, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. "That would be a big step. I'd love to be out there, but I also don't want to be a hindrance to this team at all.
"This team is rolling. I just want to be a part of it anyway. If I'm a cheerleader, that'd be great. If I'm hitting homers, that'd also be great. Whatever I could do and whatever [manager] Rocco [Baldelli] and the team things is best, I'll do that."
Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune reported that Lewis said that his hamstring is not significantly better since he injured it and that the decision will be day-to-day.
Lewis did take ground balls Monday with the rest of the Twins.
Outfielder Byron Buxton has been out since Aug. 1 with a knee injury, and has been working out with the major-league team over the past week. He made two rehab appearances with triple-A St. Paul the week prior.
Buxton did not take the field Monday, according to Park.
While speaking to reporters, Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said the team would make final decisions on all three players on Tuesday.
