Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s hit streak has come to an end.
The Toronto Blue Jays slugger had his 22-game streak snapped Sunday with an 0-for-4 outing at DH against the Oakland Athletics, starter JP Sears, and reliever Michel Otañez.
Sears retired Guerrero in his first three of his trips to the plate, getting the four-time All-Star to ground out in the first and seventh innings, and then fly out in the fourth.
After the Blue Jays scored three runs in the eighth, Guerrero came up with a last chance to extend the streak, but Otañez got the 25-year-old to ground into a double play on a first-pitch sinker.
Guerrero tied his career-best total, registering a hit in 22 straight games. Over that span, he went 40-for-81 (.494) with 11 doubles, 10 home runs, 22 RBIs, 11 walks and just eight strikeouts.
There have only been five longer hitting streaks in Blue Jays history, with outfielder Shawn Green putting together a franchise-best 28 consecutive games in 1999.
Guerrero's streak began before the All-Star break on July 14 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was named the American League Player of the Week for his efforts from July 29 to Aug. 4.
