DUNEDIN, Fla. — The Toronto Blue Jays have shut down top prospect Ricky Tiedemann for a few days with left shoulder soreness, manager John Schneider announced on Monday.
"We're being extra careful with him, obviously," Schneider told reporters at the Blue Jays’ player development facility in Dunedin, Fla.
The plan right now is for Tiedemann to take part in a long toss session this week, according to a club official.
Tiedemann, a third-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has allowed two runs on three hits over three innings during his two Grapefruit League outings this spring. He's struck out four while walking one batter.
The six-foot-four left-hander is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Blue Jays’ system, according to MLB Pipeline.
The 20-year-old Tiedemann pitched across three levels in the Blue Jays' minor-league system last year, compiling a 2.17 ERA over 18 starts and 78.2 innings. He struck out a whopping 117 batters and finished the season in double-A New Hampshire, a spot where he was likely to begin this season.
