Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa will miss Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals at the direction of team doctors.
The club says La Russa, 77, will undergo further medical testing on Wednesday in Chicago. No specific health condition was listed in the club's release.
The White Sox say they will provide a further update on La Russa's condition before Wednesday's game against the Royals.
Bench coach Miguel Cairo will manage the White Sox in La Russa's absence.
La Russa started managing in the big leagues in 1979 with the White Sox. He also has managed the Oakland A's and St. Louis Cardinals and has a career record of 2,882-2,495 (.536).
The White Sox re-hired La Russa last year after he did not manage for the previous nine seasons.
La Russa won the World Series with the A's in 1989 and with the Cardinals in 2006 and '11.
