Ahead of the New York Yankees home series against the Kansas City Royals, reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge was back on the field for batting practice and defensive work.
In addition to getting back on the diamond at Yankee Stadium, Judge will face rehabbing reliever Jonathan Loásiaga in a live batting practice session on Sunday.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said they could "potentially" have a timeline for the star outfielder's return following that session.
Judge has been out since June 3 with a sprained toe. He made a catch while leaping into the wall against the Los Angeles Dodgers, resulting in the injury.
The 31-year-old has played in 49 games this season and posted a .291/.404/.674 slash line with 19 home runs and 40 RBI. He played in a career-best 157 games in 2022, on his way to the American League home run record, blasting 62 home runs, but has been bit by the injury bug again in 2023.
New York has a 20-28 record without Judge in the lineup in 2023 and has lost four in a row, heading into its weekend series with the Royals. The Yankees are currently four games back of the final American League wild card spot and 9.5 games back of the AL East lead.
