Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger was replaced defensively in the seventh inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies with what the team called left knee discomfort.
Leo Jimenez entered the game defensively for Barger, pushing Ernie Clement to third base.
According to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling, Barger developed the discomfort after making a double play in the fourth inning and it worsened as the game went on.
Barger was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the first inning and a strikeout before departing. He had also committed an error at third.
After hitting his seventh homer of the year, the 24-year-old rookie left the game with a .211/.247/.410 slash line for the season.
The Blue Jays ultimately lost 10-9, and after receiving post-game treatment, Barger told media his knee was feeling “a bit better.” Per Zwelling, next steps will be determined when Barger is reevaluated on Wednesday.
