Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette exits game vs. Giants with right calf soreness

Bo Bichette is dealing with a familiar problem.

The Toronto Blue Jays shortstop left Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants with right calf soreness in the bottom of the fourth inning, the team said.

After the Jays’ 10-6 win, manager John Schneider said Bichette was going for an MRI.

Bichette spent 10 days on the IL in June with a right calf issue.

Schneider said Bichette felt the pain Wednesday after he caught a pickoff throw to second base by catcher Alejandro Kirk in the second inning. He appeared to stumble after catching the bounced throw.

“First step kind of caught him a little bit. He wanted to stay in. He’s a gamer. I just I didn’t want to take a chance,” Schenider said.

Bichette was replaced by Leo Jimenez on Wednesday.

Bichette’s exit came an inning after outfielder Daulton Varsho was removed in the aftermath of an awkward slide. The Jays later said Varsho has a left knee contusion.

Bichette is in the midst of a disappointing individual season for a Blue Jays team that has performed below expectations.

The two-time All-Star is slashing .222/.275/.321 with four homers and 30 RBIs.
