Blue Jays have checked on veteran left-hander Mike Montgomery

The Toronto Blue Jays have recently checked on veteran left-hander Mike Montgomery, according to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith.

The Blue Jays’ level of interest in Montgomery is unclear at this point, per Nicholson-Smith, and the process of checking in on players is something the team does often.

Montgomery spent spring training with the New York Mets but was released on March 28. The 31-year-old appeared in four exhibition games, posting a 6.14 ERA and striking out nine over 7.1 innings.

A veteran of six major-league seasons, Montgomery has a career 3.84 ERA with the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals.
