Blue Jays’ Daulton Varsho wins two Fielding Bible awards

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho picked up a pair of Fielding Bible awards Thursday.

Varsho earned the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year and the Multi-Position Award for the first time.

“Daulton never ceases to amaze us,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. We are really spoiled with him out there. Guys love playing with him because he makes tough plays look routine and makes everyone around him better. It feels like he makes game-changing plays and picks us up every single night. We’ve been saying he’s the best defender in baseball for the last two years, and I’m glad he’s starting to get the proper recognition for it.”

The 28-year-old led all players in the majors with 28 defensive runs saved during the season.

Varsho, who splits time between left and centre field, is the first Blue Jays player to win the Multi-Position Award.

The Fielding Bible awards have been presented annually since 2006. They are voted on by “a panel of experts who consider statistical analysis, the eye test and any other factors that they wish to utilize.”

Varsho is also a first-time finalist for the American League Gold Glove Award for centre field. Winners for the Gold Glove awards will be announced Nov. 3.
