Blue Jays, Twins finalize rosters for wild-card series

The Toronto Blue Jays have set their 26-man roster for their wild-card series against the Minnesota Twins.

The Blue Jays made the announcement Tuesday morning ahead of Game 1 of their best-of-three series at Target Field.

Kevin Gausman had previously been penciled in as Toronto’s starting pitcher for Game 1, with Jose Berrios set to take the mound for Game 2 Wednesday.

If necessary, Game 3 will take place Thursday. The winning team will face the Houston Astros in the American League Division Series beginning Saturday.

Catcher Danny Jansen is not on the roster. Jansen fractured his right middle finger when he was hit by a foul tip against the Colorado Rockies on Sept. 1 and missed the remainder of the regular season.

Starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu is another notable omission. Ryu made his season debut Aug. 1 after returning from Tommy John surgery.

The Twins tabbed Pablo Lopez as their starting pitcher for Game 1 and Sonny Gray for Game 2.

Minnesota’s roster included shortstop Carlos Correa, who has missed the past two weeks due to a foot injury and is expected to return.

Rookie sensation Royce Lewis, who has been out since Sept. 19 with a hamstring injury, was also named to the infielders’ group.

Outfielder Byron Buxton was not named to the lineup. Buxton has been out since Aug. 1 with a knee injury and had been working out with the team over the past week.

Watch Game 1 live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m. PT.
