Blue Jays invite OF Berroa, IF/OF Lantigua, C McDowell to spring training

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed outfielder Steward Berroa, utility man Rafael Lantigua and catcher Max McDowell to minor-league contracts with invitations to spring training, the club announced Thursday.

Berroa, 24, split last season between double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A tuffalo, combining to bat .257 while stealing 47 bases on 57 attempts. The Dominican native first signed with the Blue Jays as an international free agent in 2016.

Lantigua, 25, batted .305 over 129 contests for Buffalo in 2023 while starting games at six defensive positions. The Dominican native also first signed with the Blue Jays in 2016.

McDowell, 29, played 71 minor-league games in the Philadelphia Phillies organization last season before he was traded to the Blue Jays on Sept. 16. McDowell played three games with Buffalo, completing his year with a combined .233 batting average and a .693 OPS.
