Toronto Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano will be shut down from throwing for three to five days after having an anti-inflammatory injection in his pitching elbow, according to manager John Schneider.
Romano was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday due to right elbow inflammation, however, the Canadian underwent an MRI that showed no structural damage.
Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi reported that the injection is similar to the one he received in spring training before starting the season on the injured list.
The 31-year-old right-hander has a 6.59 ERA and eight saves in 13.2 innings this season.
Schneider also provided an update on Yariel Rodriguez, who will pitch out the bullpen for triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, aiming to throw around 55 pitches.
Rodriguez is working back from thoracic spine inflammation and has made three rehab appearances so far. He last pitched on Friday, delivering 43 pitches over two innings, allowing two hits and one run while registering one strikeout.
Toronto’s skipper added that Tuesday’s starter is still to be determined as the Blue Jays weigh their options to replace Alek Manoah in the rotation.
Additionally, there is still no timeframe for Joey Votto, who continues to take live at-bats and work through a running progression.
You can watch as the Blue Jays open a four-game set against the Baltimore Orioles Monday night on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT.
