Blue Jays look to complete sweep against Cardinals

Starting pitcher Yariel Rodriguez heads to the hill Sunday as the Toronto Blue Jays aim to finish a three-game sweep over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals.

Watch the game live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ with the first pitch set for 1:37 p.m. ET / 10:37 a.m. PT.

After walking off the Cardinals 4-3 in the 11th inning Friday night, the Blue Jays cruised to a 7-2 victory Saturday.

Jose Berrios provided another stellar start on the mound to earn his seventh straight victory. Berrios (16-9) gave up just one run and two hits with two walks and four strikeouts over seven innings.

Slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. scored twice and drove in his 500th career run. Guerrero is now hitting .320, ranked third in the American League and 13 points back of leader Bobby Witt Jr. in the race for the batting title.

Davis Schneider also shined at the plate going 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs.

The Blue Jays were hit with a pair of injuries though. Shortstop Leo Jimenez was a late scratch from the starting lineup with a right index finger contusion. Outfielder Joey Loperfido left after the fourth inning due to left adductor discomfort.

Rodriguez (1-6, 4.42 ERA) is still looking for his second career victory in the majors. The rookie right-hander has three losses and seven no-decisions over his past 10 starts. Rodriguez went five innings during his most recent start last Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, allowing one run and two hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

The Cardinals will counter with right-handed pitcher Miles Mikolas (8-11, 5.55 ERA). Mikolas, who is also winless since July, lasted just two innings during his most recent outing last Sunday. He conceded seven runs, six earned, on nine hits during a 10-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

Toronto (71-78) looks to wrap up its first series sweep since completing a four-game set against the Los Angeles Angels in late August.
