Blue Jays’ Loperfido clears concussion protocol, feeling better after Green Monster collision

The Toronto Blue Jays can breathe a sigh of relief. Outfielder Joey Loperfido appears poised to avoid a stint on the injured list after colliding with the Green Monster in Thursday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

Loperfido suffered what appeared to be a head injury in the seventh inning after he collided with the wall while making a two-out catch to rob Tristan Casas. He seemed in pain, but was able to walk off the field on his own before manager John Schneider pulled the outfielder as a precaution.

The 25-year-old outfielder went for tests after the game.

According to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling, Loperfido cleared MLB concussion protocols and is set to do some light pre-game activity before Toronto’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Friday.

Earlier Friday, while appearing on Blair & Barker, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Loperfido was “doing fine,” adding that the six-foot-four outfielder came out of all his tests fine.

Loperfido struggled to start his tenure with Toronto after he was acquired from the Houston Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi trade, but has settled in as of late. With the Blue Jays, Loperfido is slashing .207/.244/.390, and in the last 15 games, he’s had 13 hits and five RBIs in 50 at-bats.
