Blue Jays place Hyun Jin Ryu on 10-day injured list, activate Borucki

The Toronto Blue Jays announced that they have placed left-handed pitcher Hyun Jin Ryu on 10-day injured list with forearm soreness.

Taking his place, fellow left-hander Ryan Borucki was activated from 10-day injured list following a hamstring injury. Borucki will be active for Sunday’s game against the Oakland Athletics

The South Korean practiced in the bullpen and had MRI testing Sunday morning before the final decision was taken.

Ryu gave up six hits and five runs earned in Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the A’s. Manager Charlie Montoyo pulled the pitcher after four innings. Ryu, who won 14 games for the Blue Jays last season, is in the third year of a $80-million, four-year contract with Toronto.

Ryu strung difficult outings, allowing six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings during Toronto’s 12-6 loss in their series finale against the Texas Rangers.

Manager Charlie Montoyo said after Toronto’s win over Oakland on Sunday that Ross Stripling would replace Ryu in the starting rotation.
