The Toronto Blue Jays recalled catcher Brian Serven from triple-A on Sunday to fill the spot that the Danny Jansen trade created.

Serven, 29, has made eight appearances with the big-league club this season and has one hit in 13 plate appearances. However, he’s found some success at triple-A, putting up .265/.390/.379 batting splits with three home runs in 40 appearances behind the plate.

The Blue Jays traded stalwart catcher Jansen to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday for a package of prospects.

The team said that Serven will be active for Sunday’s afternoon matchup against the Texas Rangers.
