After being designated for assignment last week, Daniel Vogelbach has cleared waivers and was released by the Toronto Blue Jays, according to the MLB transaction log.
The Blue Jays will be charged with paying the rest of Vogelbach’s $2 million contract this season.
Vogelbach was designated for assignment when Toronto recalled utility player Addison Barger from triple-A on June 14.
“Just want to point out, thanking Vogey for everything he did,” Schneider said after the move was announced. “Obviously it was a tough runway for him playing-time-wise… But just wanted to say how well-liked he was in here, and he just went about things the right way.”
The 31-year-old designated hitter slashed .186/.278/.300 with one home run in 31 games for the Blue Jays this season. He signed a minor-league deal with the team in the off-season before earning a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Vogelbach has not played in the field since 2022, when he played first base for five innings.
Now a free agent, the nine-year MLB veteran will look to join the sixth different franchise of his career and fifth in four seasons.
