Toronto Blue Jays top prospect Ricky Tiedemann is day-to-day with inflammation between his hamstring and calf.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said an MRI revealed no structural damage “which is overall good news.”
“Best case scenario, probably he’s back throwing in a couple of days and you go from there,” he added.
Tiedemann was supposed to start the Blue Jays’ spring training opener against the Philadelphia Phillies but was scratched after experiencing hamstring discomfort. Chad Dallas was named the replacement for the 21-year-old on the mound.
Schneider also said that his next start will be decided once he returns to throwing off a mound and that: “If it is not his next turn, anticipating it to be hopefully not too long after that.”
Tiedemann was the Blue Jays’ third-round pick in 2021 and has since become the most highly touted prospect in Toronto’s ranks. He spent the majority of the 2023 season in double-A New Hampshire, where he posted a 5.06 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.
Tiedemann ranks 29th overall in MLB’s top prospect rankings, and first overall for the Blue Jays.
