Blue Jays’ Romano, Garcia could return by All-Star break

The Toronto Blue Jays could get their late-game relievers back by the All-Star Game.

Yimi Garcia and Jordan Romano both threw from 120 feet on Friday and could return to a mound this weekend, manager John Schneider told reporters before Toronto’s second game against the New York Yankees.

Per Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, Schneider added that a return by the All-Star break is on the table for both right-handers.

Garcia, 33, who went on the 15-day injured list on June 17 due to right elbow ulnar neuritis, has been Toronto’s best bullpen arm in 2024, posting a 2.57 ERA, a 3-0 record, 37 strikeouts and five saves over 28.0 innings this season.

Romano, 31, is currently on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. Romano had an injection in his elbow on June 3 — the second one he has received this season.

The right-hander from Markham, Ont., has earned eight saves with a 6.59 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 13.2 innings this season.
