Blue Jays to give Spencer Horwitz his first big-league start vs. Rangers

Spencer Horwitz will make his major-league debut on Sunday when the Blue Jays play the Texas Rangers.

Horwitz, a 24th-round pick by the Blue Jays in 2019, is set to take the DH spot when the Blue Jays play their rubber match in Arlington (2:35 p.m. ET / 11:35 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN NOW).

Santiago Espinal will play third base in place of Matt Chapman, who is taking the day off.

This is the first MLB recall for the 25-year-old Horwitz. In 57 games this season with Buffalo — primarily as a first baseman — the left-handed hitter is slashing .300/.421/.405 with 16 doubles and 34 RBI. He was recalled on Friday ahead of the series in Texas.
