Braves’ Max Fried to replace Phillies’ Ranger Suarez in All-Star Game

Atlanta Braves pitcher Max Fried will replace Philadelphia Phillies’ Ranger Suarez at the 2024 MLB All-Star game set to take place on Tuesday.

Suarez was announced as a first-time All-Star last week as one of a historic eight Phillies to be tabbed for the mid-summer classic but has been removed from the NL’s roster with back tightness.

Fried will slot in his place and make his second career All-Star appearance and first since 2022.

He will join fellow Braves teammates Marcel Ozuna and Reynaldo Lopez in Texas next week as the National League looks to grab a second victory in as many years over their American League counterparts.

Fried, 30, has garnered a 7-5 record in 18 appearances with the Braves in 2024. The southpaw has fanned 91 batters thus far and has steered his ERA and WHIP to 3.08 and 1.16 respectively through 108 innings.

Fried has made his case to be at the All-Star game in each of his last five seasons with the Braves, posting exceptional winning records on the mound and sitting down some of the game’s best hitters in bulk.

In 2022, his last All-Star appearance, Fried finished the campaign with 14 wins and finished the year second in NL Cy Young voting.
