Can Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reach 200-hit milestone against Marlins?

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will be looking to reach the 200-hit plateau Saturday when the Toronto Blue Jays host the Miami Marlins.

Watch the game live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 3 p.m. ET / Noon PT.

Guerrero is just one hit away from the milestone and could become the first Blue Jays player to reach 200 hits since Vernon Wells collected a team-record 215 in 2003. Other Blue Jays to cross the 200-hit mark include Tony Fernandez (213, 1986), Paul Molitor (211, 1993), Shannon Stewart (202, 2001) and John Olerud (200, 1993).

The 25-year-old Guerrero is also second in the majors in hits behind Kansas City Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr., who has 210. Guerrero (.326) is also chasing Witt (.332) for the American League batting title.

Guerrero batted 2-for-4 with an RBI during Friday’s 15-5 loss to the Marlins.

Miami’s Xavier Edwards had the first three-triple game in MLB since 2014 while Jonah Bride connected with a pair of homers as the Marlins set a season high in runs.

The Blue Jays will send Yariel Rodriguez (1-7, 4.41 ERA) to the mound Saturday for their penultimate game of the season.

The rookie right-hander is still seeking his second career win and his first since July. Rodriguez has earned four losses and eight no-decisions over his past 12 starts. He picked up the loss in his most recent outing last Saturday as he allowed three runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts over four innings.

Miami will counter with Xzavion Curry (1-2, 5.02 ERA). Marlins manager Skip Schumaker will miss the final two games due to a family medical issue.
