Ketel Marte just seems to love playoff baseball.
After setting an MLB record with a 16-game hit streak to start a post-season career on Tuesday, he was named NLCS MVP on Tuesday as the Arizona Diamondbacks advanced to the World Series with a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
Marte, 30, is in his ninth season in the majors and his seventh with the Diamondbacks. The second baseman’s only other appearance in the postseason came in 2017 when he played four games with Arizona.
In just his second playoff appearance, Marte has led the upstart Diamondbacks on a surprising World Series run, picking up at least one hit in all 12 of the team’s playoff games, while hitting a blistering .358 and adding seven RBIs and two home runs.
Over the course of the NLCS, Marte picked up 12 hits and three RBIs while putting down .387/.406/.581 hitting splits.
Marte and the Diamondbacks will now take on the Texas Rangers in the World Series which begins on Friday.
