Dodgers place Glasnow on injured list, Reds’ Greene replaces on All-Star roster

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the injured list Tuesday, the team announced.

Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts told reporters the right-hander experienced back tightness on Sunday severe enough to land him on the shelf indefinitely.

The Dodgers are comfortably leading the second-placed San Diego Padres in the NL West by 7.5 games, but are hoping the injury to their ace is only a minor one.

Roberts believes Glasnow will be back on the mound shortly after the All-Star Break, according to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

Glasnow’s ailment is another blow to a long list of misfortune that has spelled over the Dodgers’ pitching rotation this season, with Clayton Kershaw, Joe Kelly, Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto all sidelined by injury at this juncture of the campaign.

Glasnow has come as advertised in his first year with the Dodgers this season, carrying an 8-5 record and 143 punchouts, the most of any Dodgers hurler prior to the All-Star break since Kershaw fanned 159 batters in 2017

The 30-year-old was named to the National League’s 2024 All-Star squad this past weekend but will be unable to attend his first midsummer classic following the injury. Cincinnati Reds starter Hunter Greene will make his All-Star debut in his absence.

The Dodgers open up a pivotal three-game set with the best team in baseball on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies.

The team has summoned right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen from Triple-A to fill Glasnow’s void in the rotation for the foreseeable future.
