Dodgers scratch Freddie Freeman from Game 4 lineup vs. Padres

As the Los Angeles Dodgers aim to extend their season on Wednesday night, they’ll have to do it without All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman.

The team announced ahead of first pitch that Freeman won’t be in the lineup for Game 4 of the NLDS against the San Diego Padres. Chris Taylor was inserted into the starting nine and will bat ninth and play centre field. The move pushed Max Muncy to first base and Enrique Hernandez to third base.

Freeman has been dealing with a sprained ankle since the end of the regular season, when he twisted his right ankle while trying to avoid a tag on the bases in a game against the Padres.

The 35-year-old has gone 3-for-11 through three games in the NLDS, including a 1-for-4 performance on Tuesday night.

He has left both of the last two games early due to the injury.

Before the post-season, Freeman told reporters that his sprain would usually be “a four-to-six week IL stint” and that it’s the worst injury he’s ever tried to play through.
