With the likes of Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrill and Tyler O’Neill, among many others, plying their trade at the MLB level in 2024, Canada has graduated a number of big leaguers in recent years.
Now a handful of Canadian-born players will look to join them in the professional ranks after this week’s MLB Draft.
Here is a list of every Canadian to be taken during the 2024 Draft.
27. Dante Nori
Team: Philadelphia Phillies

Bats: Left | Throws: Left
Born: Toronto | School: Northville HS (Mich.)
Nori entered the draft as the highest-ranked Canadian-born plater and soared into the first round, ending up with the Phillies. A five-foot-10 outfielder with speed for days, Nori was born in Toronto while his dad, Micah Nori, served as an assistant coach with the Raptors. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Michigan, where he helped Northville High School win a state championship in 2024. Nori has excellent speed, defence and hit-tool grades, and has been compared to Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Alek Thomas, according to MLB Pipeline.
58. Emilien Pitre
Team: Tampa Bay Rays
Position: 2B | Age: 21
Bats: Left | Throws: Right
Born: Repentigny, Que. | School: University of Kentucky
Pitre is coming off a junior season at Kentucky that saw him hit .301/.420/.519 with 10 home runs in the SEC, college baseball’s toughest conference. The Quebec native received above-average grades for his running and fielding by MLB Pipeline, and was praised for his approach at the plate. In addition to contributions at the plate for Kentucky, Pitre stole 26 bases, giving him 46 for his college career.
94. Nathan Flewelling

Born: Innisfail, Alta. | School: St. Joseph HS (Alta.)
A prep high school catcher from Alberta, Flewelling’s stock began to rise after posting the second-highest max exit velocity of all hitters at the 2024 MLB Draft Combine. Still just 17, the left-handed swinging backstop is committed to Gonzaga, but should begin his pro career with Tampa Bay after being selected in the third round. He has been playing with the Sylvan Lake Gulls in the Western Canadian Baseball League this summer, where he has hit .329 with five home runs in 20 games.
105. L.P. Langevin
Team: Kansas City Royals
Position: Pitcher | Age: 21
Throws: Right
Born: Quebec City | School: University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Before arriving at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Langevin was a Junior College standout at Wabash Valley College. After he arrived in the NCAA, the righty established himself as one of the most dominant relievers in Division I. He posted a 3.73 ERA over 62.2 innings, posting a 39.1 per cent strikeout rate, which ranked fourth among all Division I pitchers, trailing only first-rounders Chase Burns, Hagen Smith and Trey Yesavage.
166. Josiah Romeo
Team: Oakland Athletics
Position: Pitcher | Age: 18
Throws: Right
Born: Milton, Ont. | School: Mayfield SS (Ont.)
Pitching with the Canadian Junior National Team and in the MLB Draft League, the six-foot-three Romeo has worked up to 93-94 m.p.h. with his fastball while mixing in a slider and changeup. His slider is graded as his best pitch by MLB Pipeline. Romeo is committed to Florida State, but will now have the chance to join fellow Canadian Myles Naylor in the Athletics’ farm system.
355. Sean Heppner
Team: Cleveland Guardians
Position: Pitcher | Age: 21
Throws: Right
Born: Point Roberts, Wash. | School: University of British Columbia
Born in Washington state but raised in British Columbia, Heppner emerged as a key member of the Thunderbirds rotation in 2024, punching out 107 hitters over 71.1 innings and 14 starts. His season included a 6.1-inning, one-hit, 16-strikeout performance against the College of Idaho.
364. Connor Caskenette

Bats: Right | Throws: Right
Born: Duncan, B.C. | School: Purdue University
A six-foot-tall catcher, Caskenette spent the last two college seasons backstopping the Boilermakers in the Big Ten. In 2024, he earned Third Team All-Big Ten honours after posting a 1.004 OPS with 13 home runs. He played in 55 games and struck out only 23 times over 233 trips to the plate.
366. Jack Lines

Born: Okotoks, Alta. | School: TNXL Academy (Fla.)
Lines, a six-foot-tall shortstop from Alberta, spent his draft-eligible year playing for TNXL Academy in Florida. He becomes the third Canadian to be selected by the Rays in this draft, joining Flewelling and Pitre in Tampa.
406. Ryan Magdic
Team: Oakland Athletics
Position: Pitcher | Age: 24
Throws: Left
Born: Beamsville, Ont. | School: Missouri University
After spending time in junior college and at Division II Florida Southern, Magdic found his way to Missouri in 2024 and logged 35 innings for the Tigers. He made 14 appearances — four starts — in the spring, finishing with a 4.63 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Originally a hitter in college, Magdic made the transition to pitching full-time once arrived at Missouri.
429. Cohen Achen
Team: Baltimore Orioles
Position: Pitcher | Age: 22
Throws: Right
Born: Calgary, Alta. | School: Lindsey Wilson College
Achen was a four-time All-Conference member during his time at Lindsey Wilson, including being a first-team member for the final three years of his career. Over four college seasons, he racked up 341 strikeouts over 268.1 innings while walking just 78 hitters.
497. Dane Burns
Team: Kansas City Royals

Born: Dryden, Ont. | School: N/A
Canadian-born pitcher Dane Burns moved to Texas when he was in junior high and finds himself as the second Canuck drafted by the Royals. The six-foot-four southpaw underwent Tommy John in 2023, but has been throwing in the mid-90s this summer.
514. Micah McDowell
Team: Miami Marlins

Bats: Left | Throws: Right
Born: Kentville, N.S. | School: Oregon State
A senior outfielder who was born in Nova Scotia but went to high school in Alberta, McDowell recorded a 1.118 OPS with home runs in 2024. He earned All-Torunament honours for his performance in the Corvallis Regional. In five years with the Beavers, he finished with a .307/.408/.453 slash line in 619 plate appearances.
561. Brendan Lawson

Born: Toronto, Ont. | School: P27 Academy (S.C.)
One of the highest-ranked Canadians in the 2024 Draft, Lawson tweeted Tuesday morning, “let’s run it gator nation,” signalling that he will be headed to Florida rather than signing. Ranked as the 156th-best prospect by MLB Pipeline, the six-foot-three shortstop has long been one of Canada’s top prep prospects and is described as “an advanced prep hitter with a disciplined approach.”
569. Owen Pote
Team: Cincinnati Reds

A six-foot-six right-hander, Pote has been throwing for the Gulls in the Western Canadian Baseball League, posting a 3-0 record and 3.18 ERA over 22.2 innings. Pote is committed to Barton Community College in Kansas and has worked up to 93 m.p.h. with his fastball.
570. Vicarte Domingo

Born: Vancouver, B.C. | School: University of British Columbia
Domingo, a foot-foot-11 righty, was a big part of the Thunderbirds’ bullpen, pitching 41.0 innings with a 3.95 ERA, racking up 55 strikeouts and five saves. He’s only built on that success this summer in the West Coast League with the Edmonton Riverhawks, where he currently owns a 5-0 record and 0.93 ERA over five starts.
611. Eric Hartman
Team: Atlanta Braves

Bats: Left | Throws: Right
Born: St. Albert, Alta. | School: Holy Trinity Academy (Alta.)
A member of the Canadian Junior National Team and Okotoks Dawgs Academy, Hartman is committed to the University of Michigan. The six-foot-one outfielder impacts the game with his speed and ability to spray the ball all around the field. Over the past two summers, playing with the Okotoks Dawgs in the Western Canadian Baseball League, Hartman has hit .397 with one home run in 29 at-bats.
